WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump has called for the cancellation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial, labeling the legal proceedings a “ridiculous Witch Hunt”.
- The Demand – In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump said Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial should be “CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given”.
- The Accusation – Trump characterized the trial as a “WITCH HUNT” and a “Horror Show,” terms he has also used to describe legal challenges he has faced.
- The Charges – Netanyahu is on trial in three separate cases for charges including bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, all of which he denies.
Writing on his social media platform, Trump made an unprecedented call for an end to the Israeli justice system’s proceedings against the current prime minister.
What Trump’s Statement Said

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump stated he was “shocked to hear that the State of Israel… is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister!”. He praised Netanyahu as a “WARRIOR” and a “Great Hero,” referencing a recent conflict with Iran as a moment where Netanyahu was “sharper, or stronger in his LOVE for the incredible Holy Land”.
Trump asserted that the trial was politically motivated and a “travesty of ‘justice’”. His statement concluded with the demand that the trial be canceled or that Netanyahu receive a pardon.
A Brief on the Charges Netanyahu Faces
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 and his trial began in May 2020. He faces charges in three distinct cases:
- Case 1000: Allegations of fraud and breach of trust for accepting expensive gifts, such as champagne and cigars, from a Hollywood producer in exchange for favors.
- Case 2000: Accusations of fraud and breach of trust for an alleged attempt to secure more positive news coverage from the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth in exchange for legislation that would harm its main competitor.
- Case 4000: The most serious case involves charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Netanyahu is accused of providing regulatory benefits to the Bezeq telecommunications company in return for favorable coverage on the Walla news site, which was owned by the same controlling shareholder.
Netanyahu has consistently denied any wrongdoing, stating the charges were fabricated as part of a political effort to remove him from office. There was no immediate official comment from the prime minister on Trump’s statement, though a spokesperson for his Likud party shared a Hebrew translation of the post. The cross-examination of Netanyahu in the trial began in early June 2025.
