Millions of Eggs Recalled Across Multiple States

On June 6, 2025, August Egg Company initiated a recall of approximately 1.7 million dozen brown cage-free and brown certified organic eggs. These eggs are marked with plant code numbers P-6562 or CA5330 and have “sell by” dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025, depending on the retailer. The recalled products were distributed to major retailers, including WalmartSave MartFoodMaxxLuckySmart & FinalSafewayRaleysFood 4 Less, and Ralphs, across Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming.

What to Do If You Have Recalled Eggs

Consumers who have purchased eggs matching the recall description are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should either dispose of the eggs immediately or return them to the store for a refund. It is also recommended to thoroughly wash any surfaces or items that may have come into contact with the recalled eggs using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher to prevent cross-contamination.

Understanding Salmonella Symptoms and Risks

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella typically experience symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Symptoms generally appear 6 hours to 6 days after exposure and usually resolve within 4 to 7 days without specific treatment.

Medical attention is recommended for severe symptoms, including a fever over 102°F, diarrhea lasting more than three days, bloody diarrhea, persistent vomiting that prevents fluid retention, or signs of dehydration like reduced urination, dry mouth, and dizziness.

August Egg Company stated it has voluntarily diverted eggs to an egg-breaking plant for pasteurization, which kills potential foodborne pathogens, since identifying the concern. The company is conducting an internal review to implement preventative measures.

This Salmonella outbreak and egg recall are not related to any recent tomato recalls.
